The type of personal information we collect
We currently collect and process the following information about CES members:
- Name
- Email address
- Country of residence
- Academic institution / Employer
This information is collected when individuals apply to join the CES via our website. After joining, members may voluntarily enter additional personally identifying information such as biographical information, personal website address and social media links.
We also maintain a separate mailing list to which members and non-members may sign up to. This mailing list is run via MailChimp.com. It contains email addresses only and no other personal information, and is not linked to member accounts on the main CES website.
We don’t collect or store payment details or credit card information.
How we get the personal information and why we have it
The personal information we process is provided to us directly by you in order for us to keep a record of your membership in the Cultural Evolution Society, and to allow us to communicate with you about Society news, grant opportunities, election results etc.
We will never share this information with any other organisation or individual without your explicit consent.
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:
(a) Your consent. You are able to remove your consent at any time. You can do this via the CES website (for Membership details), via Mailchimp (for the Mailing List) or by contacting the CES Membership Officer via [email protected]
(b) We have a legitimate interest.
How we store your personal information
Your information is securely stored on WordPress.org servers. Please see the WordPress.org privacy policy for further details.
Your data protection rights
Under data protection law, you have rights including:
Your right of access – You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.
Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.
