The Cultural Evolution Society is now receiving applications for the Advancing Cultural Evolution (ACE) Early Career Research Grants. There are two awards of up to $3000 each to support research projects in cultural evolution conducted by early career researchers. Deadline:
Applications must be received by September 27th 2024, 9:00 AM AoE (Anywhere on Earth) to be considered.

Eligibility:
1. Applicants need to be an early-career researcher, defined as follows:

  • – Enrolled in a graduate degree program to obtain a Masters or PhD
  • – Employed as a postdoctoral researcher
  • – Has a doctorate and is actively seeking academic/research positions although not currently employed

2. Applicants must be pursuing a degree or conducting research in a topic that is relevant to the field of Cultural Evolution.

Information requested:
The online form (see link above) requests your name and contact details, confirmation of early career status, and the following each no more than 500 words: Project Description, Project Impact, Qualifications and Feasibility, Budget. Please see the online form for details of each section.

Review:
Applications will be reviewed by at least 2 individuals who are in the field of cultural evolution, and may be drawn from the CES executive committee, or a review committee comprised of researchers within the field.

Applications will be scored on the basis of:

  • – Scholarly quality of the proposed project (theoretical rigour, suitability of methods)
  • – Impact the project will have in answering key questions, filling gaps, and advancing the field
  • – Feasibility of project and qualifications of the applicant to conduct the proposed research

Responsibilities:

  • – Funds should be expended within 1 year of receiving them
  • – Within 18 months of receiving the funds, you will be asked to communicate to CES on how the funds were used, what research activities took place, preliminary results, and how receiving the grant has impacted your research trajectory
  • – You should acknowledge funding from the CES ACE Grant in publications arising from this work.
NOTE: If multiple individuals are involved in the project, only one individual (e.g. lead researcher, first author) should submit the application, and list collaborators under the Feasibility/Qualifications question
