We are looking for five to six PhD students in mathematics/applied mathematics to contribute to the interdisciplinary research conducted within our research environment. Some of these will be part of the research group "Discrete Mathematics and Modelling of Behaviour and Culture", which focuses on the mathematical modelling of phenomena in cultural evolution. The suggested PhD projects within this group are:
- Cultural evolution and AI
- Polarisation in digital societies
- Discrimination in employment processes supported by new technology
- Understanding how large language models learn language

The positions are full time employments (with a current salary of 30 600 SEK per month). A full-time employment as a doctoral student is attached to third-cycle studies which corresponds to four years. The work comprises PhD studies and research, and departmental duties including teaching and administration. Departmental duties extend the employment period.
For basic eligibility, the following are required:
- A degree at an advanced level
- At least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 are at an advanced level
- Equivalent knowledge acquired in Sweden or abroad through other means
Specifically, for the third-cycle studies (PhD studies) in the subject of mathematics/applied mathematics, a degree at advanced level is required as well as 90 credits in the subject area, of which 60 credits at advanced level, or equivalent. You do not need to have attained eligibility at the time of submitting your application, but it must be clear from your application that you will have attained eligibility when the employment is planned to begin.
